Countdown to the 31st…

A few days ago, Clem called me up to ask for an idea for the entrance song for his wedding. I did a search on the Internet and I’m surprised that the common popular song that keeps coming up on lists are Baha Men’s Who Let The Dogs Out and Darude’s Sandstorm. I told Clem my findings and he replies, “I want Smooth Criminal. Then Pam & I can moonwalk into the hall.” I just shook my head. A serious consideration was A Kiss To Build A Dream On by Louis Armstrong. He finally chose a song but I forget what his pick is.

He then tells me that he wants to sing at his wedding and that he wants to do Now & Forever by Richard Marx. As a request, he wants me to play the guitar while he sings. I happily oblige as it seems the least I could do. I failed as his proposed wedding planner (he went ahead and got a professional one) and his offer for me to be the MC seems to have evaporated (he probably realized I’d be making fun of him). And as a reward or maybe a peace offering that I wasn’t asked to be a witness at his marriage signing (since one of the criteria of being a witness is that the witness has to be married), I’ve been allowed to do a song as well.

I’ve been thinking of my choice and I’m no closer to choosing one now than I was a few days ago. I have a shortlist but I still haven’t settled on one yet. Among the songs are God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You and Always Be My Baby. For some reason, I feel compelled to do Big Girls Don’t Cry but Clem doesn’t seem to like that choice. Among others that I know I could do well but wouldn’t be appropriate include Broken by Seether, Numb by Linkin Park and Umbrella by Rihanna.

I need help. I tried looking on the Internet but most of the songs recommended are songs that I’ve never heard of and it’ll be hard to play an unfamiliar tune not only unfamiliar to me but unfamiliar to most of his guests. I could do the safe thing and do any Robbie Williams song but I need a song that will sound good on an acoustic guitar. I’ve elected not to play with the band since I’m too lazy to practice with them.

A little advice to those who’d like to sing at their wedding; plan it in advance. I’ve got 24 days left and counting.

I wonder if I’m getting paid. Hmmmm.

  1. Go check out MiG Ayesa’s “Baby I Love Your Way” (the studio recording one he did for his album, not the one he performed on Rockstar INXS coz that one was done with a piano).

I’m not too sure what your vocal range is like, but it’s definitely do-able on the guitar.

Or, you could do U2’s “With or Without You” acoustic style. But I’m not too sure if guests would be pleased to hear you screaming towards the end of the song though. But then again, you could just choose not to sing on that song and just finger-style the entire song on guitar (google Doyle Dykes for the tab. It’s the same one that the korean boy Sungha Jung played on YouTube)

  2. Sir Mixalot – Baby got back (I like big butts)

  3. thanks perky.. I’ll give it a try.. But I think we’re pretty set with Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s Somewhere Over The Rainbow & It’s A Wonderful World.. But I’ll check your recommendations.
