Looking back to another year passed, it seemed to have gone in a flash. It felt like only yesterday that the sPring had just opened. It felt not too long ago that I was still reeling from my 2 week trip to KL for the memorandum and march to the Palace. It felt like my birthday was just over. And after all these, I can only summarize that 2008 was another regret-filled year.
JAN-MAR 2008
It was a testing time for me. Working without a pay saw me live a terrible first few months of the year. It was only because of Chinese New Year and a thoughtful donation from my sis that I had managed the first quarter. Chinese New Year brought me bounties from a few ‘ang pow’ and good winnings from black jack. It was also a period where JV left for Philippines and when I have to be stronger bonds with other friends. February also brought me a small blessing in disguise with a fateful bump into old college friends in particular J whom I would spend the rest of the year trying to figure out if anything would happen between us.
APR-JUNE 2008
This was for me to be the best part of the year. Having spending more time with J, I made new friends; M,G,E,R,L to mention a few. It was this new group that made me feel a part of gang apart from my futsal circle. Like all things organic, this group would last me a better part of 6 months before it all started to dissentigrade.
It was also in this time that I seriously tried going after somebody but only to see that die together with that gang. This was also the period that I accepted the position as the project coordinator for Jaringan Orang Asal SeMalaysia (JOAS).
29th June brought me unimaginable pain with the defeat of Germany to Spain in the Euro final. I watched the game at a McDonald’s in Kota Kinabalu packed with Spain fans in Spain colours. Needless to say, I was the only downhearted person after the final whistle blew.
JULY-SEP 2008
I went to the Philippines for a few days with JV’s dad. It wasn’t much to shout about but it was a perfect tonic after the heartache of Euro as well as a time for reflection on how my year was headed. I thought things were going right but I proved myself wrong not long after this.
If I had to point to a period where my year went downhill, it would have to be this. By July, I had reached the climax with the gang and G and from there it went downhill. It was more like jumping off a cliff rather than rolling down a nicely slopped grassy hill. By September, I had reached rock bottom. I’d like nothing better than to forget these 3 months but I know by keeping it in heart, it will better me for next time.
August brought the new season of the English Premier League and it was a soothing companion to have with everything going wrong with my personal life.
September was the month where JOAS organised the march to the Palace only for it to be halted by the Royal Police of Malaysia.
OCT-DEC 2008
October and November was another lean period for me as my pay was delayed for over 2 months. It was also the loneliest I have ever felt but somehow I presevered to my own amazement. I had a birthday party at home with a surprising guest; namely Perky. The last time she was at my place for my birthday would have to be in 1995 or 1996. I went to a Haloween party, something I have not done since the turn of the century. I even went all out and bought a RM3 power ranger mask and a RM30 wig. I didn’t win me best dressed but I did go home with a souvenior and a free shot of tequilla.
November saw me frequenting Sabah for work. I calculated that I had been to Sabah more times than I have drove across the Sarawak River. It means only what you want it to mean.
December was a fun period. Work became a festivity and the pressure was off. It was also a month where my bank account had 4 figures all month long. This was due to my delayed pay coming in one month.

BEST EXPERIENCE OF 2008
This would have to be watching Manchester United winning the Champions League final against Chelsea. At 3.30am, all the kopitiams in Central Park were full and the atmosphere was carnival-like. Seeing John Terry, of all people, missing his penalty brought me smiles.
WORST EXPERIENCE OF 2008
The disintegration of the relationship between G & I. While it crashed extremely fast, the pain was slow and excrutiating.
BEST MOVIE OF 2008
My pick of best movie of 2008 is between Ironman & Tropic Thunder. I didn’t really like Batman: The Dark Knight
WORST MOVIE OF 2008
10,000 BC!!!!!! Ohhh and not forgetting; The Hottie & The Nottie. I didn’t watch it but judging it by it’s title, it’s plot and Paris Hilton, it had to suck!
Conclusion
The only thing 2008 has brought me was an extra day in February. Besides that, nothin much. So, 2009! Another year, another bag full of regrets. At least there are only 365 days this year.
Here’s to 2009 and the “adventures” that comes with it! 😀
p/s: Still can’t believe you don’t quite like The Dark Knight.
It was alright.. But as good as Heath Ledger was in the movie, people are overdoing it.. If he could do a gay cowboy, I guess a demented psycho wouldn’t have been that much of a challenge for him. It’s a compliment by the way.
