When I got the call from my boss telling me that I was going to the Philippines for a Asia regional workshop, my thoughts were of 2 things; how extremely tired I was and a certain someone that I had knowingly neglected. I was in KL on leave after just finishing our peninsular Malaysia workshop and I had only 3 days to prepare for the trip.
I rushed home to Kuching, spent a night and left the next day for Kota Kinabalu. I stayed a night and together with 3 other Malaysians, left for Clark Airport. With me were Johny from Sibu, Martanis from Sabah and Yuriday from Pahang.
We arrived at 4.30pm on Monday 6th November. It was a 2 hour ride from the airport to our condotel in Makati where we stayed a night. The next day, Tuesday, together with the entire delegation, we traveled by bus to the Batangas Port
We left at precisely 7am and reached the port close to 11am. We took a Super Cat ferry to Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro where the workshop was held.
Our workshop began on Wednesday and continued on till Friday where we final could go sight-seeing but there’s nothing much to see since it starts getting dark by 5pm. There were karaoke sessions after dinner and it was really nice hearing different tales and views from across Asia.
We went to a small museum located within the city hall of Calapan City. The city hall is an impressive 2-story building. It is still not finished but it looks fantastic already.
On Saturday, we began our trip back and this is where my story really begins. I was dropped off along Edsa, a huge freeway that connects major cities along the east coast of Luzon Island. This is because I stayed back a couple days extra to be with family while the others were being housed in the University of Philippines with most of them leaving the next day.
A few more snap shots are of Glorietta Mall, a well visited mall in Makati. The shops vary from designer labels to private labels, local delicacies to foreign franchises, arcades, cinemas, goldsmiths and money-changers.
This is a view from outside a Starbucks in Glorietta. The building on the right is a hotel while the other buildings are apartments. This was on a Monday afternoon so there weren’t many people around.
A wonderful blue, this is during the ferry ride from Batangas to Oriental Mindoro.
