[Verse 1]
I was young but I wasn’t naive
I watched helpless as he turned around to leave
and still I have the pain I have to carry
a past so deep that even you could not bury if you tried

[CHORUS]
after all this time
I never thought we’d be here
never thought we’d be here
when my love for you was blind
but I couldn’t make you see it
couldn’t make you see it
that I loved you more than you’ll ever know
a part of me died when I let you go

[Verse 2]
I would fall asleep
only in hopes of dreaming
that everything would be like is was before
but nights like this it seems are slowly fleeting
they disappear as reality is crashing to the floor

[CHORUS]
after all this time
I never thought we’d be here
never thought we’d be here
when my love for you was blind
but I couldn’t make you see it
couldn’t make you see it
that I loved you more than you’ll ever know
a part of me died when I let you go

after all this time
would you ever wanna leave it
maybe you could not believe it
that my love for you was blind
but I couldn’t make you see it
couldn’t make you see it
that I loved you more than you will ever know
a part of me died when I let you go
and I loved you more than you’ll ever know
a part of me dies when I let you go

So anyways, I’ve always liked this song and I decided to watch the music video. And I was curious about the meaning of the song. So I went to SongMeanings to see what other people think. There were 2 main interpretations of the song; 1) A song of his father as the video suggests and 2) A song aimed at his own failed past love life. Everyone had their own reasons for believing their own interpretation but I just couldn’t decide which one would be closer to the truth.

So I googled Jason Wade and looked him up on Wikipedia and I have come to a conclusion that this song is in fact written with his father in mind. His parents divorced when he was 12 and the lyrics would really suggest a strong link between this song and his father. Jason is also married to his long term girlfriend so any suggestion that he’d be writing songs about a girl from his past is absolutely obscured.

I can be such a geek.
